Gospel Reading for July 31, 2024 – Matthew 13: 44-46

HAS TO BE PRACTICED

Jesus said to his disciples: “The Kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the Kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it.”

————

Jesus describes the Kingdom of heaven as MOST PRECIOUS. If it truly is, why is Heaven being mocked and ridiculed in this generation? The mockery in the Old Testament in the worship of the golden calf as god (Exodus 31), the sexual crimes of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19), and many others happened before Jesus, Son of God and Saviour came. This generation comes after Jesus, but can we say we are much better than the evil people in the Old Testament? Can we say that we have truly been saved by Jesus? Did Jesus’ great sacrifice go to waste?

CHRISTIANITY IS MOST PRECIOUS! The problem lies not in Christianity. It will always be the pearl of great price. But unless we buy the pearl, we cannot possess it and claim it as our own. Baptism does not mean we can lay claim on the pearl of great price. Christianity HAS TO BE PRACTICED. If we don’t practice it, we are the ones allowing the devil to mock and ridicule Heaven!

We do not need a great flood to happen or to have fire and sulfur rain on us as what happened in the Old Testament. We just need TO BE VERY GRATEFUL that our God has never abandoned us and continues to sustain us with sunshine and rain and all other things around us, and promises eternal life to those who help build his Kingdom on earth.
Lord, help us to never forget that HEAVEN IS MOST PRECIOUS!
