Gospel Reading for December 22, 2024 – Luke 1: 39-45
IMMENSE GRACE
Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.”

Yes, Mary JUST BELIEVED. Perhaps, if we were Mary, we would make sure first with an ob-gyn or use a pregnancy test, or whatever was available to them that time to detect pregnancy. Knowing that her cousin Elizabeth in her old age was pregnant and would surely need her assistance, she hurriedly went to her to be her caregiver. Again, she knew what God wanted her to do upon being told of Elizabeth’s condition by the angel Gabriel.
When we are able to establish a real deep relationship with God, like Mary, we would know deep inside our heart that what the angel said was true, sans the evidence, because we know for a fact that God is with us every step of the way. This is why Faith in God is such an IMMENSE GRACE of not seeing, yet believing there is God. It is something Christians have to be so grateful for. Can we imagine a life without faith in God?
Lord, thank you so much for the gift of faith!
