Kinundena ni San Carlos Bishop Gerardo Alminaza ang kakulangan ng Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na tugunan ang suliranin ng mga manggagawang Pilipino.
Ayon sa Obispo, National Chairperson ng Church People Workers Solidarity at incoming President ng Caritas Philippines, hindi natalakay ng pangulo sa SONA ang mababang suweldo ng mga manggagawa.
Ayon sa Obispo,mas kinatigan ng pangulo ang pagpapadala ng mas maraming OFW’s kaysa dinaranas na hirap ng mga manggagawa sa bansa.
“We, Church People–Workers Solidarity (CWS), express our deep disappointment and righteous indignation at the glaring omission of workers’ genuine struggles and labor issues in the recent State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. Promises of job creation and deployment of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) deploying digital tools still rest on a deeply flawed neoliberal economic framework that has brought untold sufferings and hardships on workers, where dignity of labor is lost before the altars of profit and superprofit. The Church teaches us that labor is primary over capital (St. John Paul II, Laborem Exercens, [On Human Work], 12),” ayon sa mensaheng ipinadala ni Bishop Alminaza sa Radyo Veritas.
Kaugnay nito, nanawagan ang obispo ng pagkakaisa sa labor sector at simbahan sa pagsusulong ng may dignidad na pasahod.
Umaasa si Bishop Alminaza na maging propeta ang mga pastol at taong simbahan upang higit na isulong ang karapatan ng mga manggagawa sa lipunan sa pamamagitan ng pagpapalakas sa mga adbokasiya at tunay na pakikiisa rin sa mga mahihirap.
“We thus demand: Immediate passage of legislated PhP 1,200 family living wage increase and other measures to protect workers’ rights, including security of tenure; Abolishment of regional wage boards; An end to union-busting, red-tagging, and violence against workers, labor organizers, and their advocates; Recognition of the freedom of association and the right to collectively bargain; To ignore just wages, forced labor, unemployment, migration pressures, and climate displacement is not people-centered governance—it is moral abdication. The prophetic tradition of the Church demands that we name suffering, challenge false narratives, and lift up the cries of the marginalized by supporting them in all forms possible,” bahagi pa ng mensaheng pinadala ni Bishop Alminaza sa Radyo Veritas.
Bukod sa mababang suweldo at hindi pantay na benepisyo, patuloy na ipinananawagan ng sektor ng mga manggagawa ang pinaigting na pangangalaga sa mga union ng Pilipinas na kadalasang nararanasan ang mga paniniil dahil sa pagpapatay sa mga labor leaders at members kung saan simula noong 2017 ay umaabot na ang bilang ng mga pinapatay sa hanggang 70.
