Nanawagan ang Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) ng panalangin at maayos na pagninilay sa gitna ng impeachment process laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte.
Ayon sa CBCP, matapos ang hakbang ng Kamara na i-impeach ang Bise Presidente at iakyat ito sa Senado, mahalagang pairalin ang katotohanan, katarungan, at pagsunod sa Saligang Batas sa magiging paglilitis.
Hinihimok ng mga obispo ang Senado na agad dinggin ang kaso bilang impeachment court, ipatawag ang mga testigo, at magpasya batay sa ebidensya at tamang proseso, nang may katapatan sa tungkulin.
“We make this urgent appeal to not delay the trial and to convene the Senate as an impeachment court at the soonest possible time. To delay the trial is to delay justice for both the Filipino people and the Vice President,” ayon sa pahayag ng kalipunan na nilagdaan ni CBCP President Lipa Archbishop Garcera.
Ayon pa kay Archbishop Garcera, “We urge the Senators to avoid any act that may be perceived as evading their sworn duty or circumventing the requirements of the Constitution. You now have this opportunity to restore our people’s faith and confidence in our public institutions that adhere to the rule of law and serve the common good in the pursuit of justice and truth.”
Apela rin ng CBCP sa publiko na magdasal, manatiling mapanuri, at iwasan ang maling impormasyon habang hinihintay ang magiging takbo ng paglilitis.
Binigyang-diin din ng simbahan na ang panalangin ay mahalaga upang gabayan ang mga lider ng bansa sa paggawa ng makatarungang desisyon para sa ikabubuti ng sambayanan.
“Our deep desire and fervent prayer is that we arrive at the truth through this constitutional process, with the hope that this will strengthen our respect for and adherence to the rule of law, a key pillar of a genuine and stable democracy,” ayon pa sa pahayag.
Nanawagan ang CBCP ng sama-samang panalangin para sa Pilipinas, lalo na sa paggunita sa kapistahan ng Our Lady of Fatima na ipagdiriwang sa May 13.
