Gospel Reading for July 1, 2025 – Matthew 8: 23-27
TRUE FAITH
As Jesus got into a boat, his disciples followed him. Suddenly a violent storm came up on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by waves; but he was asleep. They came and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” He said to them, “Why are you terrified, O you of little faith?” Then he got up, rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was great calm. The men were amazed and said, “What sort of man is this, whom even the winds and the sea obey?”

There are those of us who, when beset with so much problems say that “God must be sleeping!” This kind of thinking makes it look as if it was God who created the problem. When we take a good look at our problems, we will realize that a lot of them were brought about by ourselves and/or family members because of lack of proper discernment, the very careless “bahala-na” attitude, squabbles within and outside the family, the unwillingness to forgive and lack of compassion, and so on and so forth. But, most of the problems in this world are caused by human beings – the attitude of Adam and Eve, who thought that by disobeying God, they would be like God (Genesis 3: 5), wielding power over others.
Jesus teaches us to be like God not in the way that Adam and Eve thought. He teaches us that power from the Holy Spirit will bring out the very best in us, the goodness in us, the God in us. It will solve so many problems the world is facing now.
When problems beset us, when the storms of life come to us and we are terrified, all we need is to use that power from the Spirit to find a solution to the problems, and to have TRUE FAITH in him!
Lord Jesus, help us remember that no problem can be greater than your love for us!
