Radio Veritas, the leading faith-based AM station in the Philippines will discuss about the proposed reinstatement of the capital punishment on its special program, “Truth Forum” on February 27, 2017 from 8am to 10am.

The panelists include Agusan Del Norte First District Representative Lawrence “Law” Fortun and Caritas Manila’s Restorative Justice Ministry Coordinator, Sr. Zeny Cabrera, SHE.

In his pastoral letter released on February 2, 2017, His Eminence Archbishop of Manila Most Rev. Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle D.D. invited the public to reflect, pray and act against the restoration of the death penalty.
“The death penalty has not reduced crime because it does not solve criminality from its roots. To help solve these roots of criminality, the Church and the state need to protect and strengthen the basic unit of society, which is the family,” Cardinal Tagle said.

Meanwhile, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference the Philippines’ Episcopal Commission on the Laity through its lay arm, the Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas, organized “Walk for Life” at the Quirino Parade Grounds in Rizal Park, Manila on February 18 which was attended by thousands of Catholic faithful.

Also, Radio Veritas launched an online petition against death penalty on February 1, 2017. The station aims to get one million signatures to express the public’s opposition against the restoration of death penalty. Supporters can access the petition at www.veritas846.ph/chooselife/.
