Gospel Reading for June 11, 2025 – Matthew 5: 17-19
MULTIPLICATION
Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.”

Jesus did not just fulfill the commandments, but made them understandable for us. As a matter of fact, the way Jesus presented them were not as commands, but foolproof ways of living life as it should be lived, and if followed faithfully, we will be assured of gaining true peace and happiness amidst troubles around us and even within our families and communities. A very good thing about following the commandments is that we contribute to the MULTIPLICATION OF GOODNESS in the world. This will definitely minimize or even eliminate the troubles created by evil in the world.
Parents have to copy Jesus when they teach their children to be obedient. Children have to know the reason why there are such commandments, home rules and even civil laws. They have to know how they themselves and the people around them will benefit from their obedience. It will be easier for them to obey. The problem with the scribes and Pharisees during Jesus’ time was that they just “rammed down the throats” of the Jews the commandments, to pride themselves of being the experts of the law. “No questions asked.” Just follow.
Lord, may we do our very best in faithfully following your commandments as long as we live!
