Radio Veritas President Rev. Fr. Roy Bellen has challenged media professionals to uphold the highest ethical standards, especially in light of allegations that journalistic integrity can be compromised.
Father Bellen, who also heads the Archdiocesan Office of Communication of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila, emphasized that soliciting or accepting illicit funds betrays our mission to deliver the truth and inevitably misleads the public.
“My dear brothers and sisters, we must remain vigilant against the growing culture of corruption, even within the media industry. The media’s role is to uphold truth, promote justice, and serve the common good. When it succumbs to manipulation, bribery, or the distortion of facts, it betrays this mission and misleads the people.”
Quoting St. Francis, the head of RCAM-AOC urged journalists and communicators to embrace a “Eucharistic vocation and renewal,” pursuing truth with love, charity, friendship, and communion.
Father Bellen implores the faithful to pray for the conversion of those blinded by greed, that they may uphold honesty and integrity in their pursuit and dissemination of truth.
“I urge our brothers and sisters working in media to remember that we are called to be witnesses of the Truth, who is Christ Himself. Let us also pray for those blinded by greed, that their hearts may be converted.”
