Naniniwala ang Isang Obispo na hindi makasusugpo sa laganap na kriminalidad ang pagpapababa ng edad ng mga child offenders.
Ayon kay Balanga Bishop Ruperto Santos, sa halip na ituring na kriminal ang isang siyam na taong gulang na bata ay dapat gumawa ng paraan ang pamahalaan at simbahan para itaas ang kanilang dangal.
Inihayag ng Obispo na marapat bigyan ang mga kabataan lalo na ang mga mahihirap ng magandang kalusugan at sapat na edukasyon upang lumaki silang mabubuting mamamayan.
“Instead of making more children be tagged as criminals let us put all our efforts at having children be children. Let us see to their health and education so they will grow up into good citizens. We should be concerned with peace and order, where everyone especially children are protected and secured in and out of the house. Lowering the age of liability for crime will not solve crime. It will just increase the number of criminals. We are also responsible for every child that is thrown into criminality. Jesus said do not suffer the little ones for theirs is the kingdom of heaven…”pahayag ni Bishop Santos sa Radio Veritas.
Iginiit ng Obispo na ang pagpapababa ng edad sa mga batang mapaparusahan ng batas ay lalo pang dadami ang krimen sa mga bata at hindi na magkakaroon ng tunay na katahimikan at kapayapaan ang ating lipunan.
“It is not the age or about the age. We should be concerned with peace and order, where everyone especially children will be protected and secured in and out of the house. We should get rid of root causes of crimes and sources of criminality,”pahayag ng Obispo.
Sa datus ng DSWD rehabilitation centers, mula 64-libong mga bata na mayroong criminal case, pinakamalaking bilang ay nagmula sa mga batang hindi nakapag-aral at mahihirap na pamilya sa Visayas, National Capital Region, Region 11 at Davao region.
