Nagpaabot ng pakikiramay ang Philippine Ecumenical Peace Platform (PEPP) sa pagkamatay ng magpinsang Absalon sa Masbate na biktima ng pagsabog ng isang Improvised Explosive Device (IED) na una ng inako ng New People’s Army (NPA).
Ayon sa grupo na binubuo ng iba’t ibang church institutions, hindi katanggap-tanggap ang sinapit nina Nolven Absalon – 40 taong gulang na kasalukuyang Chairperson ng Board of Directors ng Masbate Electric Cooperative Employees Union at ng pinsan nito na si Keith Absalon 21-taong gulang na football player ng Far Eastern University.
Paliwanag ng P-E-P-P, maituturing din ang naganap na insidente bilang isang paalala sa karahasang naidudulot ng patuloy na armed conflict sa bansa sa pagitan ng pamahalaan at ng mga komunistang grupo.
“Various leaders, personalities and groups have condemned the actions of the New People’s Army (NPA) which led to this tragedy. While the tragic incident is truly condemnable, it is also a timely reminder for us to pause and reflect. The deaths of Nolven and Keith fully underscores the cost of the armed conflict in the country between the government and the NPA along with Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP)/National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP).pahayag ng Philippine Ecumenical Peace Platform (PEPP).
Umaasa naman ng Philippine Ecumenical Peace Platform sa pangunguna ni PEPP Co-chairperson Cagayan de Oro Archbishop Emeritus Antonio Ledesma, SJ na sa halip na magsilbing mitsya para sa pagsisimula ng mas marahas na sagupaan ay magsilbing binhi ng kapayapaan ang pagkamatay ng magpinsang Absalon.
Dahil dito, muling nanawagan ang P-E-P-P sa pamahalaan at sa CPP-NPA-NDF upang muling ipagpatuloy ang naudlot na usapang pangkapayapaan na isang mas maayos at mapayapang paraan upang ganap na makamit ang matagal ng hinahangad na kapayapaan sa bansa.
“As church leaders, we will serve the Lord (cf. Joshua 24:15) and we choose peace and we choose life! We call on all Filipinos to not let the deaths of Nolven and Keith fan the flames of war but rather let their deaths implore us to further sow the seeds of peace that we badly need in our country. Thus, we call on the government and CPP/NPA/NDF to return to the negotiating table to address the roots of the armed conflict and respect all previous agreements.” panawagan ng P-E-P-P.
Giit ng grupo, patuloy na nabibiktima at naiipit sa kaguluhan at karahasan ang mga inosenteng sibilyan kung saan sa loob ng halos limang dekada ay napakadaming buhay na ang nasayang at mga ari-arian ang nawasak na nagdudulot rin ng patuloy na takot at pangamba sa mga apektadong komunidad.
Pagbabahagi ng P-E-P-P, dapat na ganap na masolusyunan ang problema ng mga komunistang grupo sa bansa na mayroong malalim na ugat hindi lamang sa usaping pampublitika kundi maging pang-ekonomiya.
“This armed conflict, which has deep social, economic and political roots, has spanned more than five decades and led to the loss of thousands of lives, destruction of property and misery and hardship.” Dagdag pa ng P-E-P-P.
