Itinuturing ng U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) na isang makasaysayang araw para sa Estados Unidos ang naging desisyon ng US Supreme Court na baliktarin ang nauna ng desisyon sa Roe v. Wade na nagpapahintulot ng abosyon sa bansa.
Sa isang opisyal na pahayag nina Los Angeles Archbishop José H. Gomez – pangulo ng USCCB at Baltimore Archbishop William E. Lori, chairman ng USCCB’s Committee on Pro-Life Activities ay binigyang diin ng Kalipunan ng mga Obispo ng Estados Unidos na naangkop lamang ang ginawing pagbawi ng Korte Suprema sa naunang desisyon nito sa nasabing batas na halos 50-taon ng ipinapatupad.
“This is a historic day in the life of our country, one that stirs our thoughts, emotions and prayers. For nearly fifty years, America has enforced an unjust law that has permitted some to decide whether others can live or die; this policy has resulted in the deaths of tens of millions of preborn children, generations that were denied the right to even be born.” bahagi ng opisyal na pahayag ng U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).
Ayon sa USCCB sa loob ng mahabang panahon ay maituturing na naabuso ng mamamayan ng Estados Unidos ang ipinagkaloob ng Panginoon sa kasagraduhan ng buhay.
Umaasa naman ang kalipunan ng mga Obispo sa bansa na matapos ang bagong desisyon ng Korte Suprema ay paiigtingin ng mga halal na opisyal ang pagbubuo at pagpapatupad ng mga batas na magsusulong at magbibigay proteksyon sa kasagraduhan at karapatang mabuhay ng bawat nilalang.
“America was founded on the truth that all men and women are created equal, with God-given rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This truth was grievously denied by the U.S. Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade ruling, which legalized and normalized the taking of innocent human life. We thank God today that the Court has now overturned this decision. We pray that our elected officials will now enact laws and policies that promote and protect the most vulnerable among us.” Dagdag pa ng USCCB.
Nagpaabot naman ng panalangin ang USCCB para sa kapayapaan ng lahat ng mga sanggol na biktima ng aborsyon at naipalaglag mula ng maipatupad ang nasabing batas noong 1973.
Tiniyak din ng kalipunan ng mga Obispo ang pakikiisa at pananalangin para sa paghilom ng lahat ng mga kababaihang nagdusa dahil sa pagpapalaglag ng kanilang mga supling.
Pagbabahagi ng USCCB, “Our first thoughts are with the little ones whose lives have been taken since 1973. We mourn their loss, and we entrust their souls to God, who loved them from before all ages and who will love them for all eternity. Our hearts are also with every woman and man who has suffered grievously from abortion; we pray for their healing, and we pledge our continued compassion and support. As a Church, we need to serve those who face difficult pregnancies and surround them with love.”
Inanunsyo ng US Supreme Court ang nasabing pagbaligtad sa desisyon ng Korte Suprema sa Roe v. Wade noong ika-24 ng Hunyo, 2022 na nataong kasabay ng paggunita ng Simbahang Katoliak sa Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus o Dakilang Kapistahan ng Kamahal-mahalang Puso ni Hesus.
