Umapela si Archbishop Alberto Uy sa mamamayan at mga lider ng pamahalaan na pairalin ang katotohanan, katarungan, at pananagutan.
Ito ang pastoral appeal ng Arsobispo sa umiigting na tensyong pampulitika sa bansa dulot ng iba’t ibang usapin.
“We are now living in a time when many of our people are becoming divided, confused, and emotionally burdened because of political tensions, conflicting opinions, fake news, and disinformation,” ayon sa pahayag ni Archbishop Uy.
Iginiit ng arsobispo na hindi dapat manaig ang galit, pagkakahati-hati, at bulag na paninindigan sa politika lalo na sa gitna ng usapin ng korapsyon at impeachment.
“As Christians and as Filipinos, we are called not only to pray, but also to seek truth, justice, honesty, and the common good,” giit ng arsobispo.
Batid ni Archbishop Uy ang pakakaiba ng pananaw ng mamamayan, subalit bilang iisang bansa ay dapat na nagkakaisa sa iisang layuning wakasan ang malawakang korapsyong nagpapahirap sa bayan.
Aniya, matagal nang umaasa ang mga Pilipino sa tunay na katapatan, pananagutan at pagiging responsableng katiwala sa kaban ng bayan.
“The resources of our nation must serve the people, especially the poor, and not selfish interest,” ayon kay Archbishop Uy.
Panawagan ng arsobispo ang makatarungang proseso sa imbestigasyon hinggil sa mga personalidad na sangkot sa iba’t ibang usapin sa bansa, kabilang na ang flood control projects at ang impeachment proceedings na kinakaharap ni Vice President Sara Duterte.
“We believe that anyone accused of corruption or misuse of public funds should be properly investigated and, if proven guilty, should face the proper consequences—regardless of power, wealth, or political and blood affiliation… Every accused person must be given the opportunity to defend himself or herself according to the law and within a just process,” giit ng arsobispo.
Nanawagan si Archbishop Uy sa pamahalaan na tiyaking seryoso at patas ang imbestigasyon sa flood-control anomalies upang maibalik ang tiwala ng mamamayan sa katarungan.
“Please show our people that the investigation into the flood-control scandal is being pursued seriously, sincerely, and without favoritism,” ayon pa sa arsobispo.
Apela rin ni Archbishop Uy sa mga kapwa obispo at lider ng simbahan na maging matatag sa paninindigan para sa katotohanan at pananagutan.
“We should be just as strong in urging a swift and credible investigation into the flood-control anomalies as we are in calling for the proper constitutional process regarding the impeachment case,” dagdag pa ni Archbishop Uy.
Sa gitna ng umiigting na tensyon, paalala ni Archbishop Uy sa mga Pilipino na pairalin ang pagmamahal sa bayan kaysa sa pagkakawatak-watak dahil sa politika.
“This is not the time for hatred. This is not the time for blind loyalty to politicians. This is the time to love our country honestly, prayerfully, and responsibly,” giit ni Archbishop Uy.
