Cleanse me inside,
Lord Jesus,
cleanse me thoroughly
for I am indeed like
"whitewashed tombs that
appear beautiful outside,
but inside are full of dead
men's bones and every kind
of filth"; you know so well
how I fake good deeds
and virtues, my humility
with a hook that is self-
serving, most of all,
my being silent in many occasions
because I am so timid,
so afraid to make a stand
for what is right,
what is good,
and what is just.

Jesus said, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and every kind of filth. Even so, on the outside you appear righteous, but inside you are filled with hypocrisy and evildoing (Matthew 23:27-28).

Create a clean heart in me,
Lord Jesus:
I am so disordered within,
anger and resentments,
bitterness and pains
from past experiences
and persons still affecting me
negatively;
create a clean heart in me,
Lord Jesus:
still with doubts about
my worth and abilities,
so many skeletons,
so many dead
like tombstones,
buried for so long,
repeatedly whitewashed
outside
to hide all
hypocrisies
and evil.

Cleanse me,
Jesus,
wash me thoroughly,
take away my stony heart,
create a clean heart in me,
radiant with your love
and mercy
and presence.
Amen.
