Gospel Reading for June 14, 2025 – Matthew 5: 33-37
EASILY SWAY
Jesus said to his disciples: “You have heard that it was said to your ancestors, Do not take a false oath, but make good to the Lord all that you vow. But I say to you, do not swear at all; not by heaven, for it is God’s throne; nor by the earth, for it is his footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. Do not swear by your head, for you cannot make a single hair white or black. Let your ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No’ mean ‘No.’ Anything more is from the Evil One.”

MEDIOCRITY is worse than adamantly saying, “yes” or adamantly saying, “no.” There is no room for MEDIOCRITY not only in the practice of our Faith, but in living our lives. Otherwise, we will not be able to establish who we are as Christians or who we are in this world. One of the worst things that could happen to us is not knowing or not being able to establish our identity. We will not be able to attain self-confidence/esteem. We will not have firm values or be able to determine the things we really believe in. Therefore, when we have to make decisions, we will be oscillating like a pendulum because we cannot align our decisions on values that we are not sure of. We will find it difficult to go into deep relationships because of lack of self-confidence. We will not be able to discover our purpose in life, and so on and so forth.
We have to learn to be firm in our Faith, so that we can do what we profess when we make our Baptismal Promises of renouncing Satan. Let us remember that the Evil One preys on MEDIOCRITY because with his wily ways, he can EASILY SWAY a mediocre’s decision.
Lord, may we never give the Evil One a space to penetrate our beings!
