The president of the Holy See’s Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization and Vatican’s permanent representative to the United Nations are among the keynote speakers of the forth coming Fourth Philippine Conference on New Evangelization (PCNE4) on July 28-30, 2017 at the University of Sto. Tomas Quadricentennial Pavilion.
Archbishop Salvatore Rino Fisichella, D.D., president of the Pontifical Council on New Evangelization, will deliver the keynote message on the theme “Being Christian in the age of indifference” during the second day of PCNE 4, July 29 while Archbishop Bernardito Auza, D.D., the Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations is set to talk on the topic “The role of the Church among community of nations” on the third day, July 30.
The theme for this year’s PCNE is “Of One Heart and Soul (Acts 4:32)”, and is aimed to celebrate the Year of the Parish as Communion of Communities as declared by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP). It will be a celebration of unity and harmony, and to share one heart and soul as a community of disciples, as a Church of and with the poor, as agents of communion, participation, and mission.
Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, D.D. will preside the opening mass on the first day (June 28), and will lead the plenary session about the stories of conversion and communion. The theme for the first day is “Heart Encounters,” and invites the participants to open their hearts to Jesus.
The second day of the conference will focus on the challenges that the Church, as a community of disciples of Jesus, have to face today, with the talks to center on the theme “Making Room”.
The third day of PCNE4, aptly themed “Embracing Mission”, tackles the primary tasks of Christians as missionary disciples.
Apart from the plenary sessions, there will be ten (10) tracks of concurrent sessions on school, catechist, family, youth, new media and evangelization, social justice, new movements, ecology, interreligious/intercultural/ecumenical, and parish/BEC.
PCNE was introduced by Cardinal Tagle in 2013 as a local response to the call of new evangelization. It was first held held from October 16 to 18, 2013 with the theme “God makes all things new (Rev 21:5)”. PCNE I focused on rekindling the ardor of evangelization and renewal of faith experience in the local and Asian context.
The second PCNE was held from January 15 to 17, 2015 during the visit of His Holiness Pope Francis in the Philippines. The theme of PCNE II was “Blessed are you… (Matthew 5:1-12)” and was intended to reflect on The Beatitudes of Matthew 5 and the radical revolution it demands.
PCNE 3 was held from July 15 to 17, 2016. With the theme “Awa, Unawa, Gawa: The Filipino Experience of Mercy”, last year’s conference aimed at mining the richness of God’s mercy and the trinkets of our Filipino culture.
Veritas 846 Radyo Totoo and TV Maria are the official media partners of PCNE4.
