San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish in San Pedro, Laguna will hold a benefit concert featuring “The Hotdog Band” for the construction of its Parish Pastoral Complex on September 23, 2016, 8:00pm at the Pacita Astrodome, San Pedro, Laguna.
The Hotdog Band is a successful Pinoy pop rock band who started their career in 1970’s. The band is well-credited as a major influence and leading exponent of Manila Sound, a musical genre popular during that period. With their hit songs like “Bongga Ka ‘Day,” “Manila,” and “Annie Batungbakal, they revolutionized the culture and charisma of Filipino music history from folkloric to pop.
In June 17, 2014, the band held a benefit concert for the Tacloban victims of Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda). This year, the band is set to reunite for another benefit concert in San Pedro Laguna.
San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish (SLRP) was first established in January 1988 when street masses were held in Pacita 2A presided by Fr. Mar Castillo, but the construction of the parish was started in March 1990 from the initial funds of the Ladies of San Lorenzo Ruiz, donations, and various fund raising projects of different religious organizations.
In November last year, the Silver Jubilee celebration of the erection of San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish was held. Among those who graced the event were Manila Archbishop Emeritus Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales, D.D., San Pablo Bishop Buenaventura M. Famadico, D.D. and San Pablo Bishop-Emeritus Bishop Leo M. Drona, SDB, DD. Currently, Rev. Fr. Romulo “Romy” Ponte serves as the parish priest of the San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish.
