Pinangunahan ng University of Santo Tomas (UST), Research Center for Social Sciences and Education’s National Mental Health Mapping project team ang isang virtual event upang talakayin ang kalagayang pangkaisipan ng mga kabataan sa Pilipinas.
Ito ay ang National Youth Mental Health Summit 2022 na isasagawa hanggang bukas, April 29 na layong ibahagi ang naging resulta mula sa dalawang taong pag-aaral hinggil sa “anxiety and depression” sa mga undergraduate students sa National Capital Region, Palawan, Benguet, Leyte, South Cotabato, at Albay.
Pinondohan ito ng Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Health Research and Development, sa pamumuno ni Dr. Maria Carinnes Alejandria at pinangasiwaan ng project director na si Dr. Alejandro Baroque II.
“The project titled “Mapping the Socio-Cultural Factors Affecting Anxiety and Depression, with symptoms of Self-Harm and Suicidality, among Filipino undergraduate students” documents the Filipino experience of mental health conditions and inform future interventions, such as development of Filipino-centric diagnostic and intervention tools,” ayon sa pahayag.
Nakilahok sa pagsusuri ang mga undergraduate students na nakitaan o nangailangan ng tulong dahil sa anxiety at depression.
Bukod sa mga mag-aaral, kasama rin sa mga nakibahagi sa pagsusuri ang mga administrators, academic staff, at support staff mula sa iba’t ibang institusyon.
Kabilang naman sa mga magbabahagi sa summit sina Associate Professor Maria Carinnes P. Alejandria, PhD mula sa UST; Assistant Prof. Peejay D. Bengwasan, PhD ng Saint Louis University; Prof. Rowena S. Guiang, PhD mula sa University of the Philippines Visayas; Asst. Prof. Alvie P. Bergado-Timbancaya, MA, RGC ng Palawan State University; Director Ma. Francia Sazon – Dechavez, MAEd, RGC mula sa University of Santo Tomas-Legazpi; at Asst. Prof. Jean S. Taypa, MA mula sa Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology.
Kasama rin bilang mga panel discussion reactors sina Mr. Jun Angleo M. Sunglao, isang licensed psychologist mula sa London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine; Ms. Krizia Milleny C. Bricio, pangulo ng UST Central Student Council, Mr. Mohamidin Musa, youth advocate mula sa Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao; at Mr. Jules Guiang, ang head of community ng Rappler.
Samantala, tatalakayin din sa summit ang kasalukuyang kalagayan ng mental health sa Pilipinas na ihahatid nina Dr. Ronald Del Castillo ng Mental Health PH; Dr. John Guilaran ng University of the Philippines – Visayas; Ms. Frances Prescilla L. Cuevas mula sa Department of Health; at Dr. Clementine A. Bautista, MD ng PhilHealth.
