Gospel Reading for February 18, 2024 – Mark 1: 12-15
PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT
The Spirit drove Jesus out into the desert, and he remained in the desert for forty days, tempted by Satan. He was among wild beasts, and the angels ministered to him.
After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God: “This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

Even the Son of God was not exempt from being tempted before he started his ministry. While some of us think that temptations make us weak and that without temptation, we will not fall into sin, it is really the other way around. Temptations make us stronger as gold is tested in fire. Unless there are occasions of sin, we will not be able to experience going against the devil. As commonly said, “PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT.”
If we are to be saved, it is not enough to repent. We need to believe in the gospel and live according to it.
Lord, we firmly believe that if we cling to you, the wily devil will not be able to snatch us away from you!
