Umaasa si Marawi Bishop Edwin dela Peña na ang pagdiriwang ng Red Wednesday –ang paggunita sa mga inuusig na kristiyano ng dahil sa kanilang pananampalataya ay makapupukaw sa damdamin ng bawat Filipino para magmalasakit.
“Let our coming together today ignite a lively response of faith from the Church in the Philippines to bring to the fora the flight of persecuted Christian and to generate spiritual and material help for the victims of violence and hatred against religion,” bahagi ng homiliya ni Bishop Dela Peña na ginanap sa Manila Cathedral.
“They are not only persecuted but forgotten mainly because their fate is not reported in the news. Today and for the first time in the Philippines we bow to make an effort to stop the persecution by the power of the gospel of God’s love mercy and compassion and ensure that they will no longer be forgotten through our prayers. And through spiritual and corporal works of mercy suggested to us by Pope Francis,” ayon kay Bishop Dela Peña.
Ang misa ay pinangunahan ni Papal Nuncio to the Philippines, Archbishop Gabriele Giordano Caccia na kabilang din sa dumalo sina Archbishops Romulo Dela Cruz ng Zamboanga, Martin Jumoad ng Ozamis at John Du ng Palo.
Nagpapalasamat din ang obispo sa ACN philippines para sa ibabahaging tulong para sa Marawi at ang muling pagsasaayos ng st. Marys cathedral na sinira ng mga terorista ng lusubin ang lungsod.
“By sharing in the more difficult task of rebuilding broken lives, communities, physical structures and livelihood. For all that ACN Philippines does for Marawi with our fund raising projects, we thank you profusely from the bottom of our hearts,” ayon pa sa Obispo.
Ayon pa kay Bishop Dela Peña; “We in the prelature of Marawi did not expect the things like this and the war would turned out like this. We are used to violence of some kind in the prelature, clan wars and all that. But we always say ‘well that will be finished in two to three hours at the most 3 days. But the siege of Marawi took fice long months and the destruction of the city is almost similar to the destruction of Mosul in Iraq and Aleppo in Syria. It’s 80 percent destroyed.”
Ang kampanya ay nagsimula sa United Kingdom na unang taong nilahukan ng simbahan sa Pilipinas sa pamamagitan na rin ng ACN Philippines at Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines.
Umaabot naman sa 82 katedral, basilica, at dambana sa buong bansa ang nakiisa sa Red Wednesday at ang pagpapailaw ng pula sa gusali- bilang pakikiisa sa lahat ng mga biktima ng pag-uusig dahil sa pananampalataya.
Ang ACN ay isang pontifical foundation ng Vatican na nagbabahagi ng tulong sa mga kristiyanong inuusig, maging ang mga biktima ng kalamidad kung saan kabilang din ang Archdiocese ng Palo, Leyte sa naging benepisyaryo.
Umaabot sa 200 milyong piso ang pondong inilaan ng foundation kabilang na dito ang pagsasaayos ng Palo Metropolitan Cathedral na nasira ng bagyong Yolanda noong 2013.
