Gospel Reading for November 10, 2025 – Luke 17: 1-6

SOCIAL DIMENSION

Jesus said to his disciples, “Things that cause sin will inevitably occur, but woe to the one through whom they occur. It would be better for him if a millstone were put around his neck and he be thrown into the sea than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. Be on your guard! If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. And if he wrongs you seven times in one day and returns to you seven times saying, ‘I am sorry,’ you should forgive him.”

And the Apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.” The Lord replied, “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you would say to this mulberry tree,’Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.”

————

Jesus was very particular about those who lead others to sin. We cannot take our sins lightly, thinking that the wrong we have done is ours, and therefore, it is enough to be sorry for it. Sin has a SOCIAL DIMENSION. Take for example those of us who make sure that no burglar can break into our house even if we never experienced burglary yet. For us, anybody outside our house becomes a prospective thief. If we lose something inside the house, the maid becomes the target of suspicion because she is not considered part of the family. If parents engage in immoral or illegal activities, children will grow up thinking that these activities are right. Those who are involved in illegal logging, will cause floods that will destroy life and property, and so on and so forth. This is why Sin destroys humanity. It destroys not only the person who commits sin, but others too.

Lord, help us to be instruments of your salvation wherever we are!
