Gospel Reading for May 26, 2026 – Mark 10: 28-31
A PLACE IN HEAVEN
Peter began to say to Jesus, “We have given up everything and followed you.” Jesus said, “Amen, I say to you, there is no one who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands for my sake and for the sake of the Gospel who will not receive a hundred times more now in this present age: houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and eternal life in the age to come. But many that are first will be last, and the last will be first.”

To better understand why Peter said this to Jesus, we need to look at the preceding verses, where Jesus spoke about how difficult it is for the wealthy to enter the Kingdom of God. The rich young man who asked Jesus what he needed to do to gain eternal life went away sad because he could not part with his possessions. Seeing this, the disciples wondered who, then, could possibly be saved. Jesus answered that it is impossible for human beings, but possible for God.
“But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first.”
We cannot boast of already having A PLACE IN HEAVEN simply because we have been Christians for a long time, unlike those who were baptized or began their relationship with God later in life. What truly matters is how sincere and faithful we are in following the teachings of Jesus at every moment of our lives.
Lord Jesus, help us strive to become your true and faithful followers!
