Gospel Reading for September 23, 2026 – Luke 9: 1-6
PAR EXCELLENCE
Jesus summoned the Twelve and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick. He said to them, “Take nothing for the journey, neither walking stick, nor sack, nor food, nor money, and let no one take a second tunic. Whatever house you enter, stay there and leave from there. And as for those who do not welcome you, when you leave that town, shake the dust from your feet in testimony against them.”
Then they set out and went from village to village proclaiming the Good News and curing diseases everywhere.

Jesus was truly a teacher PAR EXCELLENCE. He did not just teach the disciples in theory; he sent them on practicum. But even more than that, he had already given them the gift and the authority to do what he himself was doing for the people.
For some teachers, theory may be enough. When the school year ends, the students can practice what they have learned. But what Jesus was doing was far more than teaching a lesson. He was entrusting the disciples with a mission. That is why he was so hands-on in preparing them.
Imagine if we were among the disciples of Jesus. How privileged they were to have the Son of God as their professor! Every “nook and cranny” was covered. He made sure they were fully prepared. He made sure that what the Father had planned for them would be accomplished.
As baptized Christians, we are all called to share our gifts in Christ’s salvific mission. It did not end with the apostles. It continues to this very day through us.
Lord Jesus, may the way we live our lives according to your teachings be our best teaching tool ever. Amen.
