Kasabay ng nalalapit na pagdiriwang ng International Seafarers Day, muling binigyang pagpupugay ng Stella Maris Philippines ang pagpupunyagi ng mga Filipinong Marino.
Ayon kay Balanga Bishop Ruperto Santos-Bishop Promoter ng Stella Maris Philippines, hindi maitatanggi ang pagsusumikap mga marino para sa kanilang pamilya sa kabila ng pananatiling banta ng pandemya at malayo sa kanilang mga mahal sa buhay.
“Amidst separation from our country and amidst this troubling and trying time of the Covid 19 pandemic they continue effectively and efficiently in their workplaces. We appreciate and are grateful for their resiliency, courage, and strength to labor without fear and faithfully for our country and for their family,” ayon pa kay Bishop Santos.
Inatasan rin ng Stella Maris Philippines ang chaplaincies at diocesan desk migrant ministries na mag-alay ng misa para sa seafarers.
“We, at Stella Maris-Philippines, prayerfully greet and wish our seafarers whose works manifest their expertise and excellence; the true face of Filipinos who are honest, hardworking, and helpful to anyone in and outside their sea of works,” ayon sa mensahe ng ipinadala ni Bishop Santos sa Radio Veritas.
Ayon sa International Maritime Organization (IMO) taong 2011 ng unang gunitain ang International Seafarers Day bilang pagkilala sa mga marino, mandaragat at mangingisda sa buong mundo.
Sa tala ng Department of Labor and Employment, tinatayang may higit sa 200-libo ang Filipino seafarers o katumbas ng 25 porsiyento ng kabuuang 1.5 milyong marino sa buong mundo.
