Hiniling ng tagapangasiwa ng Arkidiyosesis ng Maynila sa mananampalataya na sumunod at makiisa sa panawagan ng pamahalaan na iwasan ang pagtungo sa mga sementeryo sa paggunita ng mga yumaong mahal sa buhay.
Sa liham pastoral ni Bishop Broderick Pabillo, chairman ng CBCP-Episcopal Commission on the Laity binigyang diin ng obispo na nakahandang sumunod ang simbahan sa pagsasara ng mga sementeryo bilang hakbang na maiwasan ang paglaganap ng corona virus.
“A few weeks ago, the mayors of Metro Manila came out with a resolution to close the public cemeteries from October 31 to November 3 this year to avoid large crowds congregating and thus spread the Corona 19 virus. This was extended nation-wide by the IATF resolution 72 which came out on September 15. It states: “All public and private cemeteries, and memorial parks, including columbariums and the like throughout the country shall be closed to visitors from October 29 to November 4, 2020.” I enjoin everyone to cooperate.” bahagi ng liham pastoral ni Bishop Pabillo.
Paliwanag ng obispo bagamat bahagi ng pananamapalatayang Katoliko ang pakikiisa sa mga banal at mga yumaong mahal sa buhay, ipinaliwanag nitong ang pagdalaw sa mga sementeryo tuwing undas ay upang gunitain at ipagdasal ang mga yumao ngunit iginiit na hindi lamang sa a-uno at a-dos ng Nobyembre maaring gawin ang mga bagay na ito kundi sa lahat ng panahon sa buong taon.
Hinikayat din ni Bishop Pabillo ang mga simbahan na mag-alay ng banal na misa para sa mga yumao kasabay ng paalala na mahigpit ipatupad ang physical distancing at maglaan ng lugar na pagtirikan ng kandila.
Sa halip na magtungo sa mga sementeryo ilaan ang panahon magsasama ang buong pamilya, mag-alay ng panalangin sa yumaong mahal sa buhay at gunitain ang alaala nito habang nabubuhay.
“Instead of going to the cemeteries on November 1 and 2, we can also set aside time together as a family in our homes and pray for those who have gone ahead of us. It is a good and holy thought to pray for the dead. It would also be good if we can share with the family members our recollections about our beloved dead so that their memory can bind us closer to each other.”
Una nang humingi ng paumanhin si Manila Mayor Isko Moreno sa mamamayan sa desisyong isarado ang mga semeteryo sa Manila na sinang-ayunan naman ng Inter Agency Task Force at ipinatupad sa buong bansa.
Kinilala naman ni Bishop Pabillo ang hakbang bilang pagpapahalaga sa kapakanan ng mamamayan na maiwasang malantad sa panganib ng COVID-19.
” I commend our local executives for their care to prevent any upsurge of the disease.”
Pinaalalahan din ng opisyal ang mamamayan na hindi makabubuting itago sa bahay ang urn na pinaglalagakan ng abo ng mga yumaong dumaan sa cremation.
“During these past six months, many have experienced death in the family, and for hygienic reasons many of our dead were cremated. I would like to remind everyone that it is not allowed for us to keep the urns containing the ashes in our homes permanently. There is great danger of desecration in the future, especially when we are no longer around to look after and care for these ashes.”
Iginiit nitong dapat inilalagak ito sa wastong lugar tulad ng mga sementeryo at columbaria na matatagpuan sa ilang simbahan sa bansa.
