COMFORT AND RELIEF
When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him. He began to teach them, saying:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the land.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst
for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted
for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

It must have been a great source of COMFORT AND RELIEF for those who listened to Jesus preach the Beatitudes. While the scribes, Pharisees, elders, and chief priests often emphasized God’s punishment for sinners, Jesus focused on something different—the positive attitudes that lead to true happiness and the blessings that flow from them.
Evil may never be completely eradicated from this world, but it can be overcome by goodness. Choosing to do good is one of the most powerful ways to combat evil. Goodness is Satan’s downfall because evil can never ultimately triumph over goodness, for God himself is the source of all that is good.
Imagine how many of the world’s problems could be solved if we consciously choose to fill our daily lives with acts of kindness, mercy, compassion, and love. Every good deed, no matter how small, weakens the influence of evil and helps build God’s Kingdom here on earth.
Lord Jesus, inspire us always to choose goodness as we continue our journey toward eternal life!
