Gospel Reading for July 28, 2026 – Matthew 13: 36-43
GREAT INHERITANCE
Jesus dismissed the crowds and went into the house. His disciples approached him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.” He said in reply, “He who sows good seed is the Son of Man, the field is the world, the good seed the children of the Kingdom. The weeds are the children of the Evil One, and the enemy who sows them is the Devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. Just as weeds are collected and burned up with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his Kingdom all who cause others to sin and all evildoers. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the Kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears ought to hear.”

The world will always be made up of both good and bad people. The evil one has done everything he can to corrupt the beauty that God created. Yet evil will never have the final victory over good, because God alone is the source of all life and goodness. Only God has the power to create, while the devil’s power is limited to destroying those who willingly choose to cooperate with him. Yet this is a battle he can never win, for no one can overcome an omnipotent God.
When we look around us, we still see countless people doing good. That is why, even in the midst of trials and adversities, people can still find joy, extend kindness, and live in peace with one another.
Why should we give up our GREAT INHERITANCE at the end of the age? What would be the purpose of our lives here on earth if they were only to end in destruction? How tragic that would be!
Lord Jesus, help us remain your faithful followers so that we may be counted among the righteous, who will shine like the sun in the Kingdom of the Father. Amen.
