Gospel Reading for September 23, 2025 – Luke 8: 19-21
“HEAR . . . and ACT ON IT”
The mother of Jesus and his brothers came to him but were unable to join him because of the crowd. He was told, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and they wish to see you.” He said to them in reply, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.”

Some people use these gospel verses to mock Mary – that she is unimportant to Jesus, therefore, should also be unimportant to us.
If we read this gospel very well, we will notice that it does not say that Jesus did not go outside to see his mother and cousins. Jesus just pointed out to the crowd what every follower of his should be, and Mary is the perfect example, that’s why she was chosen to be his mother.
We do not all have to be part of the clergy or the religious to be called “the chosen.” All of us who are baptized Christians, are chosen for a specific purpose in any walk of life, in any career, and wherever we are. All that is needed is to “HEAR the Word of God and ACT ON IT” always.
May our devotion to Mary help us be like her in her faith and obedience to God!
