Gospel Reading for December 10, 2025 – Matthew 11: 28-30

HOLISTIC

Jesus said to the crowds: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”

————

Jesus cannot be anything but HOLISTIC. It is not enough to preach, to heal, and to drive out demons. He also offers us a haven of rest when we feel burdened in life. In this gospel, he even tells us how we may be able to rest: to be meek and humble of heart.

Truly, what burdens us most in life is not living life but how we live life. When we are so full of ourselves, having so much pride, always worrying about our social stature, our businesses, our reputation and all other things that are temporal, we will really feel burdened in life.

What will unburden us is the opposite, or that which Jesus teaches us – that we have FAITH in God who is most powerful and full of wisdom; that we have HOPE to attain eternal life with God; and that we have LOVE for others, especially for those in need even if they are not our friends or relatives.

Scientific studies show that our bodies benefit from generosity through a range of positive physiological and psychological responses, often referred to as the “helper’s high.” When we engage in acts of kindness, such as helping the poor, it triggers the release of beneficial hormones and neurochemicals that enhance well-being and reduce stress.

God made us in his image and likeness – ALL GOOD. When we do good, we feel good, because we are created to do good.
Lord Jesus, may we always find rest in you!
