Nagkaisa ang Negros Island Bishops sa pagtutol sa Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) ng mga nangungunang electric service providers at cooperative sa Negros Occidental at Oriental.
Sa isang joint statement, nangangamba si San Carlos Bishop Gerardo Alminaza at Kabankalan Bishop Louie Galbines na tuluyang maging pribado ang mga electric cooperatives na dapat ang nagmamay-ari ay ang mga kasaping miyembro.
Nababahala din ang Negros Bishops na tataas ang presyo ng kuryente, pagkatanggal sa trabaho ng mga manggagawa at pagkasira ng kalikasan dahil sa tuluyang pagwawaksi ng paggamit ng renewable energy resources.
“The power that lights our homes and fuels our day-to-day activities is a common good whose stewardship has no place better to be found than at the hands of the people as bestowed by God, we are aware that MCOs (Member-consumers-owners) have been vocal in their opposition to the JVA, anchored on concerns that it places consumers at the mercy of profit-oriented interests, threatens the job security of hundreds of employees, offers no clear commitments with regards to addressing the price and stability woes suffered by power consumers,” joint statement ni Bishop Alminaza at Bishop Galbines sa Radio Veritas.
Ikinadismaya rin ng dalawang obispo ang paglalagda noong June 03 ng J-V-A ng mga kompanya sa kabila ng kakulangan ng pagsang-ayon ng stakeholders ng mga electric cooperatives members sa idinaos na general assembly.
Umaasa ang mga Obispo na iwaksi ang J-V-A at isulong ang pagbibigay prayoridad sa kapakanan ng nakakrami kasabay ng pagsasabuhay sa ensilikal ng Kaniyang Kabanalang Francisco na pangalagaan ang buong mundo.
“We humbly ask all stakeholders – especially our leaders – to be more circumspect in evaluating the JVA as signed; to be more respectful of people’s concerns and to ask how best these concerns can be addressed; and to create space for genuine dialogue so that the problems and issues we face are harmoniously resolved,” ayon pa sa sa mensahe nila Bishop Alminaza at Bishop Galbines.
Unang pinawalang bisa ng Regional Trial Court ang mga apela ng pagsasawalang bisa sa J-V-A sa pagitan ng Central Negros Electric Cooperative (CENECO) at Primelectric Holdings Incorporated.
