Gospel Reading for June 21, 2026 – Matthew 10: 26-33
UNSTOPPABLE
Jesus said to the Twelve: “Fear no one. Nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known. What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light; what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy. both soul and body in Gehenna. Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s knowledge. Even all the hairs of your head are counted. So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father. But whoever denies me before others, I will deny before my heavenly Father.”

In 2009, a Filipino song was written with this inspiring refrain:
“Tayo na sa liwanag,
ang takot ay nasa isip lamang.
Tama na ang pag-aalinlangan,
ang takot ay nasa isip lamang.”
Indeed, fear is often rooted in the mind. It is a natural survival mechanism that triggers the instinctive “fight, flight, or freeze” response. When fear takes hold, it can dominate our thoughts and influence our actions.
What, then, can overcome fear? It is the heart—a heart firmly anchored in God. When our hearts are centered on him, fear no longer has the final say. This is why, in a spiritual sense, the Holy Spirit dwells in our hearts, strengthening us with faith, hope, and courage.
The apostles provide a powerful example. After the Resurrection of Jesus, they knew that proclaiming the Gospel would expose them to persecution, imprisonment, and even death. Yet they continued the mission that Jesus had entrusted to them. Filled with the Holy Spirit, they became fearless witnesses to the truth. No threats, hardships, or sufferings could stop them. They were truly UNSTOPPABLE.
Lord Jesus, help us to be brave and courageous followers of yours. Strengthen our hearts with your Holy Spirit, that we may remain faithful to you in every trial and never be afraid to proclaim your truth.
