Kinuwestiyon ni Camarines Sur 3rd District Representative Gabriel Bordado Jr. ang desisyon ng Senado na ipagpaliban ang pagtalakay sa Articles of Impeachment laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte.
Ang pagsisimula ng impeachment process ay unang itinakda sa June 2 at ipinagpaliban sa June 11.
“Are we to tell the Filipino people that impeachable offenses committed by the second highest official of the land are less urgent than our legislative targets?”, ayon kay Bordado.
Kinondena rin niya ang paliwanag ni Senate President Francis Escudero na kailangang unahin ng Senado ang 12 priority bills at mahigit 200 presidential appointments.
“When did convenience become a valid excuse to delay justice?” tanong pa niya.
Binigyang-diin ni Bordado na hindi ito usaping pulitikal kundi paninindigan para sa transparency at rule of law: “This is not a political vendetta. This is a principled stand for transparency, integrity, and the rule of law.”
Sa panig naman ni House Speaker Martin Romualdez, sinabi nitong nagampananan na ng Mababang Kapulungan ang mandato sa Saligang Batas sa proseso ng impeachment laban sa Bise Presidente, at nasa kamay na ng Senado ang pagdedesisyon sa mga susunod na hakbang.
“Yung sulat sa akin ni Senate President Chiz Escudero is pretty straightforward. Kaya ‘yung impeachment complaint ay nasa Senado na. So we leave it to their sound discretion as to how they want to proceed and conduct,” ayon sa pahayag ni Speaker Romualdez sa mga mamamahayag matapos pangunahan ang inagurasyon ng bagong multipurpose facility sa Kamara.
Nauna nang sinabi ng pinuno ng Kamara na kumilos ang Kamara alinsunod sa kanilang tungkulin bilang prosecutorial body, at handa silang iharap ang kaso sa oras na magtipon ang Senado bilang impeachment court.
Kinilala rin ni Speaker Romualdez na may sariling legislative agenda ang Senado, kabilang na ang pagsasabatas ng mga prayoridad na panukalang batas sa ilalim ng Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC).
“The Senate President outlined the priority measures, like the LEDAC measures, that they would like to prioritize first. So, we have to respect the decision of the Senate President and the Senate,” ayon sa mambabatas.
Sa kabila nito, nananatiling umaasa ang mambabatas na mauuwi ito sa isang makabuluhan at positibong resolusyon para sa kabitihan ng lahat.
“Well, everything is speculative at this point. But we hope things resolve itself positively for all,” ayon kay Romualdez.
Matatandaang noong Pebrero ay opisyal nang isinumite ng House of Representatives sa Senado ang Articles of Impeachment, matapos mapagpasyahan na may matibay na batayan upang kasuhan si Duterte dahil sa iba’t ibang usaping legal.
