Radio Veritas is inviting the faithful to take part in the First Friday Holy Hour devotion and Stations of the Cross on March 3, 2017 at the Our Lady of Veritas Chapel in Quezon City.

Rev. Msgr. Ruben Espeńo will preside the first Friday Holy Hour devotion and confession at 10:00 am. The prayer for the Stations of the Cross will follow at 11:30am.

Radio Veritas President Rev. Fr. Anton C.T. Pascual invites the faithful to take part on the said activities.

“We are inviting everyone to come to Our Lady of Veritas Chapel in Quezon City and take part on the First Friday Holy Hour devotion and confession. Through it, let us express our gratefulness for His Divine love and let us offer reparations for our sins. Likewise, you may also join as we reflect prayerfully upon Jesus’ suffering, Death, and Resurrection through the praying of the Stations of the Cross,” Fr. Anton said.

The First Friday Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is based on a promise made by our Lord Jesus Christ during an apparition to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque in 17th century.

“In the excess of the mercy of my Heart, I promise you that my all powerful love will grant to all those who will receive Communion on the First Fridays, for nine consecutive months, the grace of final repentance: they will not die in my displeasure, nor without receiving the sacraments; and my Heart will be their secure refuge in that last hour.”

The devotion consists of several practices that are performed on the first Fridays of nine consecutive months. On these days, a person is to attend Holy Mass and receive communion. In many Catholic communities the practice of the Holy Hour of meditation during the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament during the First Fridays are encouraged.

Meanwhile, the Stations of the Cross are a 14-step Catholic devotion that commemorates specific events of Jesus Christ’s last day, beginning with His condemnation. The stations are commonly used as a mini pilgrimage as devotees move from station to station where they recall and meditate on a specific event from Christ’s last day. Specific prayers are recited before moving on to the next station until all 14 are complete. The stations are most commonly prayed during Lent on Wednesdays and Fridays, and especially on Good Friday, the day of the year upon which the events actually occurred.
