Gospel Reading for January 24, 2026 – Mark 3: 20-21
THE BEST PEOPLE ON EARTH
Jesus came with his disciples into the house. Again the crowd gathered, making it impossible for them even to eat. When his relatives heard of this they set out to seize him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”

Imagine the charisma that Jesus possessed—there were always great crowds around him, a clear sign that so many people were in need of him. Truly, the people of that time were blessed to have such an opportunity to encounter Jesus in person. And Jesus, in turn, seized every chance to serve them, often without concern for his own comfort or well-being. This is perhaps why his relatives thought he had lost his mind.
Similarly, people who are deeply committed to Christ’s work—those who devote their time to helping the poor, the oppressed, victims of abuse, and the marginalized—are often viewed by friends and family as being “out of their minds” or “foolish,” especially when they choose service over career advancement or financial gain.
St. Paul describes these people as “fools for Christ,” and contrary to what the world thinks, they are truly THE BEST PEOPLE ON EARTH!
Lord, may we always choose to be fools for you!
