Pinagtibay ng House Committee on Justice na may sapat na ‘probable cause’ upang i-impeach si Vice President Sara Duterte, matapos aprubahan ng 53 mambabatas ang dalawang magkahiwalay na reklamo—ang Saballa at Cabrera complaints—nang walang tumutol.
Sa pangunguna ni Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro-chairperson ng justice panel, pormal nang idineklara na may probable cause, na magtutulak sa kaso patungo sa plenaryo ng Kamara para sa susunod na yugto ng proseso.
“The chair pronounces that the existence of probable cause has been declared with respect to both the Saballa complaint and the Cabrera complaint,” ayon sa deklarasyon ni Luistro.
Ang mosyon para sa pagdedetermina ng probable cause ay inihain ni Pinoy Workers Partylist Rep. Franz Vincent Legazpi.
Inaprubahan din ng panel ang mosyon ni ML Party list Leila de Lima na pagsamahin ang dalawang reklamo bilang iisang articles of impeachment.
“I most respectfully move that the two verified impeachment complaints be consolidated and reported to the House as a single, integrated set of articles of impeachment,” ayon kay De Lima.
Ayon naman kay Luistro, “We direct the committee to prepare the committee report along with the resolution and the articles of impeachment. We further direct the committee to transmit the same to the complainant, the respondent vice president, and the justice members.”
Kabilang sa mga pangunahing isyu ang sinasabing maling paggamit ng confidential funds, hindi maipaliwanag na yaman, at ang kontrobersyal na pahayag noong 2024 na may kaugnayan sa pagbabanta sa buhay kina Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, at dating Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Kinumpirma rin ng National Bureau of Investigation sa pangunguna ni Commissioner Melvin Matibag ang pagiging ‘authentic’ at hindi manipuladong video na isinumiteng ebidensya.
Sa pagdinig, inilahad ang mga testimonya at dokumento kaugnay ng paggamit ng mahigit ₱612 milyong confidential funds, maging ang hindi tugmang datos mula sa iba’t ibang financial records.
