Gospel Reading for June 09, 2026 – Matthew 5: 13-16
RESPONSIBILITY
Jesus said to his disciples: “You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.”

Genesis 1: 26 says: “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.”
God created us in his own image and entrusted us with the care of his creation. He endowed us with gifts, talents, and abilities that enable us to enhance, protect, and promote life on earth. Along with these gifts comes the RESPONSIBILITY to ensure that life flourishes according to the loving plan of our Creator.
This responsibility is of great importance. Since all of creation is meant to sustain and support human life, our neglect and abuse of it will ultimately bring suffering, destruction, and even death—not only to the environment but also to ourselves. When we fail to care for God’s creation, we undermine the very systems that sustain life on our planet.
Lord Jesus, teach us to cherish, protect, and promote life in all its forms, for it is one of the greatest gifts we have received from you. May we be faithful stewards of your creation and instruments of your life-giving love in the world!
