Caritas Manila will send help for families displaced by on-going fighting between government forces and a local terrorist group in Marawi City.
The lead social services and development program of the Archdiocese of Manila will sent PHP 500, 000 and 100 cavans of rice as initial help to the residents affected by the crisis in Marawi City.
This is in response to the appeal of the Prelate of Marawi Most Rev. Edwin Dela Peña, D.D., aired in the Church-run Radio Veritas.
On Tuesday, May 23, 2017 the residents of Marawi City were shook by loud explosions and gunshots when the fighting erupted between the military and local terrorist groups. Fires also raged affecting a church, two schools and the city jail. The electricity supply was also cut off. All of Mindanao is now under martial law as declared by President Rodrigo Duterte.
Caritas Manila and Veritas 846 Radio Totoo are asking for prayers for Divine protection and for the help we can offer to our kababayans who were affected by the clashes between the military and the local terrorists and are moving away from the fighting in Marawi City. Cash as well as in-kind donations of food items (halal), hygiene kits, water and blankets are accepted
