Pinangunahan ni Caceres Archbishop Rex Andrew Alarcon ang paglagda at pagtanggap ng certificates of transfer and acceptance sa restoration project ng National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) sa orihinal na 142-year old icon ng Divino Rostro o Holy Face of Jesus.
Isinagawa ang turn-over ceremony noong September 28, sa Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Peñafrancia, sa pangunguna ni NHCP Chairperson Regalado Trota Jose, Jr. saksi ang iba pang mga opisyal ng Arkidiyosesis ng Caceres, Pambansang Komisyong Pangkasaysayan ng Pilipinas at lokal na pamahalaan at mga mananampalataya ng arkidiyosesis.
Batay sa pagsusuri ng NHCP bago ang isinagawang restoration sa imahen ng Divino Rostro, nagkaroon ito ng water damage at active mold infestation, bukod pa sa duming naipon sa loob ng mahabang panahon.
Pinag-aralan din ng restoration team ang epekto sa imahen ng environmental factors sa pinaglalagakan ng Divino Rostro kabilang na ang temperatura, related humidity, at lighting.
“In addition, the inappropriate auxiliary support, made up of ‘lawanit’ board, contributed to the transfer of acid to the canvas and to its eventual material losses. Traces of past interventions and glaring retouching had also become obvious and notable nuisances. Display area were also assessed for environmental factors like temperature, related humidity, lighting and others.” Bahagi ng pahayag ng NHCP.
Ayon sa komisyon, layunin din ng pagsusuri at pangangalap ng impormasyon ay upang maunawaan ang kasaysayan at pinagdaanan ng 142-year old icon ng Divino Rostro na nagsilbi ring gabay at batayan upang maibalik ang dating kondisyon nito.
“Laboratory tests and examinations were conducted to validate the findings and help the Restoration Team on how to properly and safely restore, and what materials to be used for the restoration.” Dagdag pa ng NHCP.
Ang pagpapanauli sa icon ng Divino Rostro o Holy Face of Jesus ay naisakatuparan ng NHCP sa ilalim ng 2023 Locally Funded Projects nito sa pamamagitan ng Historic Preservation Division and Materials Research Conservation Division ng komisyon.
Bukod sa Our Lady of Peñafrancia, natatangi rin ang debosyon ng mananampalataya ng Bicol Region sa Divino Rostro na nagpapaalala sa hindi matatawarang pag-ibig ng Diyos sa sanlibutan.
