Itinuturing ng Task Force Detainees of the Philippines (TFDP) na isang welcome development ang paghingi ni outgoing International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda ng judicial authorization sa Pre-Trial Chamber ng ICC upang maimbestigahan ang war on drugs sa Pilipinas.
Sa isang pahayag ni Bensouda may basehan para sabihing may naganap na crime against humanity na murder sa Pilipinas mula noong July 1, 2016 na pagsisimula sa katungkulan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte hanggang March 16, 2019 ng tuluyang umalis ang Pilipinas sa ICC.
Ayon kay Task Force Detainees of the Philippines Chairperson Fr. Christian Buenafe, O.CARM maituturing na isang hakbang papalapit sa katarungan para sa mga biktima at kaanak na nawalan ng mahal sa buhay sa War on Drugs ng pamahalaan ang planong pagsasagawa ng imbestigasyon ng ICC.
Dapat uluyang mapanagot ang lahat ng nasa likod ng marahas na kampanya kung saan mahigit sa 20,000 libong indibidwal ang nasawi.
“Task Force Detainees of the Philippines welcomes the request by the International Criminal Court Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda to the Pre-Trial Chamber to open an investigation into allegations of grave human rights violations amounting to crimes against humanity. This is a step forward in the quest for accountability for the more than 20,000 extrajudicial killings perpetrated since the advent of the Duterte administration in 2016.” pahayag ni Fr. Buenafe.
Pagbabahagi ng Pari, sa kabila ng kadiliman at kalungkutan ay muli ng nasisilayan ng mga biktima at kanilang pamilya ang pag-asa upang makamit ang katarungan at lumabas ang katotohanan.
“The victims and their families see a glimmer of hope in their long journey for truth and justice. All parties will now be given a chance to prove or disprove State accountability in the bloody war on drugs.” Dagdag pa ni Fr. Buenafe.
Nagpaabot naman ng paghanga at pasasalamat si Fr. Buenafe kay Bensouda sa determinasyon at tapang nito na ipagpatuloy ang imbestigasyon sa mga kaso ng karahasan sa Pilipinas.
Tiniyak naman ng Task Force Detainees of the Philippines ang patuloy na pagsubaybay at pagbabantay sa imbestigasyon gayundin ang pananalangin upang tuluyan ng mawakasan ang karahasan sa bansa.
“Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda has fulfilled her promise to resolve cases pending at her office before her term ends. Now the incoming prosecutor is faced with the challenge to continue the work. Indeed “the moral arc of the universe is long but it bends towards justice.” The ICC prosecutor has taken a brave step in a long journey towards justice. TFDP will follow this journey to its end. We owe nothing less to the victims and their families.” Ayon kay Fr. Buenafe.
Kabilang sa nais na maimbestigahan ni Bensouda ay ang mga patayan sa Davao simula 2011 ng maging kasapi ng ICC ang bansa dahil sa pagiging kasama nito sa konteksto ng War on Drugs kung saan mula sa Davao ay dinala sa Maynila ang istilo ng Davao Death Squad na nauwi sa marahas na War on Drugs ng administrasyong Duterte.
