Gospel Reading for May 08, 2026 – John 15: 12-17
PERFECTLY
Jesus said to his disciples: “This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father. It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you. This I command you: love one another.”

Jesus asks us to love one another as he loves us. And how does he love us? PERFECTLY.
When we are weak, he gives us strength. When we fall into sin, he forgives us and gives us the grace to rise again. Even when we sometimes forget him, he remains faithful—continually caring for us and protecting us from the evil one. Even when we have been unfaithful, he continues to trust and call us back to himself.
His love is so great that he was willing to lay down his life for us on the cross. And because he desires to remain with us always, he gave us the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, so that we may continually experience his real presence.
This is his commandment to us: to love one another as he loves us.
Let us ponder on this song written by Dave Magalong, DIYOS AY PAG-IBIG –
Pag-ibig ang siyang pumukaw
sa ating puso’t kaluluwa;
Ang siyang nagdulot sa ating buhay
ng gintong aral at pag-asa.
Pag-ibig ang siyang buklod natin,
di mapapawi kailan pa man.
Sa puso’t diwa tayo’y isa lamang,
kahit na tayo’y magkawalay.
Pagka’t ang Diyos natin
Diyos ng pag-ibig;
Magmahalan tayo’t magtulungan;
Diyos ng pag-ibig;
Magmahalan tayo’t magtulungan;
At kung tayo’y bigo, ay h’wag limutin
na may Diyos tayong nagmamahal.
Diyos ay pag-ibig!
Diyos ay pag-ibig!
