Ikinagalak ng Diocese of Antipolo ang pagkakapili sa bagong Santo Papa, Pope Leo XIV, upang magpastol sa mahigit 1.4-bilyong Katoliko sa buong mundo.
Ayon kay Bishop Ruperto Santos, ang pagiging punong pastol ng Simbahang Katolika ay hindi lamang isang titulo o posisyon, kundi isang banal, malalim, at makabuluhang misyon na ginagampanan sa diwa ng halimbawa ni Hesukristo.
Hinikayat ni Bishop Santos ang lahat na taimtim na ipanalangin na ang bagong Santo Papa, lalo na sa gitna ng kawalang-katiyakan at pagbabago sa mundo, upang siya ay manatiling matatag sa paninindigan sa katotohanan.
“May he lead with wisdom, bear challenges with courage, and persevere through the grace of God. In every decision he makes, may he always take to heart that his authority is not of human origin but divinely bestowed–anointed to serve, to unite, and to proclaim the Gospel with integrity and faithfulness,” pahayag ni Bishop Santos.
Ipinahayag din ng Diyosesis ang taos-pusong panalangin, katapatan, at buong pusong suporta para kay Pope Leo XIV, at ang paninindigan sa pag-asa at pananalig na ang Espiritu Santo ang patuloy na gagabay sa bagong Santo Papa sa pagtupad ng kanyang misyon.
Matapos ang tradisyonal na anunsyo sa Latin na “Habemus Papam” na ang ibig sabihi’y “May Santo Papa na tayo,” lumabas sa balkonahe ng St. Peter’s Basilica si Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, O.S.A., dating Prefect ng Vatican Dicastery for Bishops, na piniling gamitin ang Papal Name na ‘Pope Leo XIV.’
Prayer of Thanksgiving for the Gift of a New Pope
Almighty and Everlasting God, we lift our hearts to You in humble adoration at this sacred hour. We give thanks for the gift of a new shepherd, our Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, chosen to guide the 1.4 billion faithfuls entrusted to Your love. In these uncertain times, when proclaiming and living the Gospel grows ever more challenging, we pray that You give him with the wisdom to lead, the courage to bear every burden, and the grace to persevere amid trials.
Lord, may Your Holy Spirit fill him and illuminate his path with divine truth. Grant that he, following the footsteps of Jesus—who loved, led, and learned with unwavering humility—may always be guided by the deep conviction of Your eternal word. Let him be a beacon of hope, reflecting Your light and inspiring Your people to live in love and unity.
Remember, O Lord, that every authority and such influence bestowed upon him is a sacred trust from You. May this divine charge fill his heart with humility and resolve, and may his leadership kindle a spirit of renewal in every corner of our vast family of believers.
We pray that You grant him and through him, all Your children, the strength to walk the pilgrimage of transformation— one which will mirror the boundless love of our Heavenly Father. We ask all these in the name of your most precious Son, Jesus, we pray, Amen.
