Kinoronahan ni Cubao Bishop Honesto Ongtioco ang imahe ng Our Lady of Mount Carmel sa Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Mount Carmel, Broadway Avenue, New Manila, noong ika-15 ng Agosto sa gitna ng implementasyon ng Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine.
Ito ay matapos igawad ng Santo Papa sa pamamagitan na rin ng Congregation of the Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments and Coronacion Canonica sa nasabing imahe.
Sa pagninilay ni Bishop Ongtioco, binigyang diin nito na ang koronasyon ay pagsasabuhay at pagsariwa ng mga mananampalataya sa pagluluklok ng Diyos Ama sa mahal na birheng Maria bilang reyna ng langit ay lupa.
“Indeed, she was destined to become the Mother of the Redeemer. She was chosen to be the closest associate of Jesus in his work of redemption…The Lord wants Mary to reign with Him in heaven forever. The woman who called herself handmade of the Lord is now exalted far above the cherubim and she is enthroned as Queen of Heaven and Earth.”pahayag ni Bishop Ongtioco.
Samantala, ipinaliwanag naman ng Obispo na sa kabila ng pagkakaluklok kay Maria bilang reyna ay hindi nito nakalilimutan ang kanyang mga anak, at patuloy na nakikiisa sa bawat mananampalataya sa anumang hirap at pagsubok na pinagdaraanan lalo na ngayong panahon ng pandemya.
“Although she is enthroned as queen she remains to be our mother… Therefore, to her we entrust our difficult time. We know that from her heavenly thrown she continues to turn her eyes of mercy towards us and she shows to us the blessed fruit of her womb, Jesus our king.” Dagdag pa ng Obispo.
Labis naman ang pasasalamat ni Rev. Fr. Joey Mabborang, Outgoing Parish Priest at Rector ng Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel sa lahat ng mga tumulong upang maging matagumpay ang coronacion sa mahal na birhen.
“It is with the humble heart that I express my deepest gratitude for sharing your time, talent, resources and generosity for the benefit and ultimate success of all the projects and endeavors and vissions and brought to fruition in our Parish, Shrine and Basilica.”
Taong 1954 nang maitatag ang simbahan ng Mount Carmel kasabay ng pagdating ng Order of Discalced Carmelites sa Archdiocese of Manila.
1975 nang maideklara ito bilang parokya sa ilalim ng kauna-unahang kuraparoko na si Fr. Paul O’Sullivan.
Disyembre naman noong 2015 nang maideklara ito bilang isang National Shrine, at Nobyembre noong 2018 nang maging isa itong Minor Basilica.
