Gospel Reading for February 6, 2025 – Mark 6: 7-13
“CHURCH’S WAY”
Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over unclean spirits. He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick –no food, no sack, no money in their belts. They were, however, to wear sandals but not a second tunic. He said to them, “Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave from there. Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, leave there and shake the dust off your feet in testimony against them.” So they went off and preached repentance. The Twelve drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.

Why did Jesus send them out in two’s? Could it be because they needed to watch each other’s back? Perhaps. Or, maybe, he was preparing them to learn the “CHURCH’S WAY.” It has to be a reminder for us that when we take part in his mission of salvation, we do not do it alone. We need to be with someone or even with more persons, and let the Spirit SYNERGIZE us. The effect will be greater, and the focus will be on Jesus, not on us. Many a preacher/healer started well but ended up failures because they were the ones who became famous (and even wealthy). The focus shifted from Jesus to themselves.
Lord Jesus, you are the one and only one who is Lord of the Universe!
