Gospel Reading for October 08, 2025 – Luke 11: 1-4
GOD ALONE SUFFICES
Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples.” He said to them, “When you pray, say:
Father, hallowed be your name, your Kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread and forgive us our sins for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us, and do not subject us to the final test.”

Jesus had a very close and intimate relationship with the Father and it was prayer that made their bond very strong, such that no one could come between them even when the Father’s will was very challenging for him. As a matter of fact, the whole chapter 17 of the gospel of John is full of prayers to the Father, and this was before he was arrested.
There is a lot to learn from Jesus. While we have close and intimate relationships with our family and others, we need to have an even closer and intimate relationship with God if we are to remain strong in life. Although it is true that our close and intimate relationships with people provide us with the much-needed moral support when the going gets tough, nothing compares with the moral support that we can get from God. God is EVERYTHING. As St. Therese of Avila says: “Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you. All things are passing, God alone never changes. Patience gains all things. If you have God, you will want for nothing.” GOD ALONE SUFFICES.
Help us Lord, to deepen our relationship with you through constant prayer!
