Gospel Reading for June 30, 2025 – Matthew 8: 18-22
INCONSISTENCY
When Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other shore. A scribe approached and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” Jesus answered him, “Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head.” Another of his disciples said to him, “Lord, let me go first and bury my father.”But Jesus answered him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead.”

When we take a vacay, we quit doing our regular work for a number of days so we may relax and be able to get “away from the madding crowd.” But, to be a Christian is a 24/7 thing, never a part-time job. How can we be part-time when the devil is full-time?
This may sound as if the life of a Christian is a drudgery, but it is far from being one. As a matter of fact, what will make it a drudgery is the INCONSISTENCY of following Christ. It will be difficult if today we wish to follow Jesus, and next day take a break from following Jesus, or when our decisions oscillate from Jesus’ side to the devil’s side.
Christianity is a way of life leading to perfection, to peace and happiness. It cannot be otherwise because the Son of God is the one and true teacher of Life. God is the source of Life, therefore, whatever Jesus teaches us is for the PRESERVATION OF LIFE. This is why his mission is called SALVATION.
Lord Jesus, as we remember the first martyrs of the Holy Roman Church today, we ask you to give us the courage they had in upholding the Faith!
