THE LAST MYSTERY OF LIGHT

SHARE THE TRUTH

On the night of the Last Supper, before He was betrayed, Jesus took the bread and said, “This is My Body.” Jesus took the cup and said, “This is My Blood.” This marked the first Eucharistic celebration. Was Mary at the Last Supper? The scriptures do not say so, but I know in my heart she was there.

Where did Jesus get His Body? From the body of Mary. Where did Jesus get His Blood? From the blood of Mary. It was from Mary that the Body and the Blood of Jesus came. It was Mary who lent Jesus her own body and blood so that our sins may be forgiven. Was Mary at the First Eucharist? Leonardo da Vinci’s painting does not portray her there, but I know in my heart she was there. Where else could this beautiful woman, whom we honor today, be on this momentous occasion?

In the Gospel of St. John, the evangelist does not refer to these lines, “This is My Body and this is My Blood.” The evangelist only presents Jesus to us as washing the feet of the apostles. As he did this, the Lord said, “As I have done, so you must do.” Was Mary there? I am sure Mary was there because who taught Jesus how to wash feet? Who washed the feet of Jesus for the first time? Who washed the body of Jesus for the first time? Who bathed Jesus and made Him clean for the first time? It can only be the woman from whose body and blood Jesus came.

As we reflect on the last Mystery of Light, which is the Eucharist, let us always remember that we cannot have the celebration of the Eucharist, the Eucharistic Sacrifice, without Mary being close by. How can Mary allow herself to be separated from her own Body and Blood?

The strength of prayer comes from the one to whom it is addressed. In other words, prayer does not become a strong tool because we pray.
