Hinikayat ni Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas ang mga seminarista na kilalanin ang mahihirap bilang mga guro at sukatan ng kanilang magiging paglilingkod bilang mga pari.
Sa homiliya sa installation ni Fr. Clarence Marquez, OP bilang ika-13 rector ng UST Central Seminary, binigyang-diin ng arsobispo na hindi dapat ituring na simpleng paksa ng pag-aaral ang mga maralita.
“The poor are not just statistics for dissertations or beneficiaries of our apostolate; they are not just targets of our studies. The poor are our masters,” bahagi ng pagninilay ni Archbishop Villegas.
Ayon sa arsobispo, ang pakikitungo at paglilingkod sa mahihirap ang magiging mahalagang sukatan ng buhay-pari.
“At the final comprehensive exams, the panel of examiners will only be composed of the poor. They are going to sit in judgment and ask us whatever we have done to the least of our brothers and sisters, we have actually done to Christ,” ani ng arsobispo.
Iginiit din ni Archbishop Villegas na ang mga bata at ang mga karanasan sa krisis ay may mga aral na hindi kayang ituro ng silid-aralan o ng mga aklat.
“Crisis is a very, very good library because an easy life is a bad teacher. The lessons of easy living are addicting and enslaving; in fact, they dehumanize us and make us forget the real important values,” dagdag ng arsobispo.
Pinaalalahanan din ni Archbishop Villegas si Fr. Marquez na, sa kanyang pangunahing tungkulin bilang rector, ay samahan ang mga seminarista sa kanilang paghubog tungo kay Kristo.
“The first duty of the Rector is not to administer, but to accompany as a teacher, as a shepherd, and as a servant,” ayon pa ni Archbishop Villegas.
Hinimok din ng arsobispo ang mga seminarista na samahan si Fr. Marquez sa bagong tungkulin nito bilang rector.
“Do not leave him alone. Do not let him walk alone. He needs your accompaniment also as brothers in formation,” ani ng arsobispo.
Sa kanyang mensahe, sinabi naman ni Fr. Marquez na ang pag-ibig at pagtitiis ang magiging gabay niya sa pag-akay sa mga naghahanda para sa pagpapari.
“Mamahalin at pagtitiyagaan. Pagtitiyagaan dahil minamahal. We love, so we are patient. We are patient because we love,” pahayag ni Fr. Marquez.
Matatandaang July 7 nang italaga si ng Vatican sa pamamagitan ng Dicastery for the Clergy si Fr. Marquez bilang ika-13 rector ng seminaryo na maninilbihan ng apat na taong termino alinsunod na rin sa kahilingan ni Dominican Master at UST Grand Chancellor Fr. Gerard Francisco Timoner III at sa nominasyon ni UST Rector Fr. Richard Ang.
Bukod sa mga Dominikano at mga seminarista ng UST Central Seminary, ay dumalo rin sa installation ng bagong rector sina Parañaque Bishop Emeritus Jesse Mercado at Balanga Bishop Rufino Sescon, Jr.
