Pinangangambahan ng BPO Industry Employees Network o BIEN ang negatibong epekto ng digmaan sa Middle East na likha ng sigalot sa pagitan ng Amerika at Iran sa mga manggagawag Pilipino.
Ayon sa BIEN, dahil sa sigalot ay otomatikong tataas ng presyo ng mga bilihin at serbisyo bunsod ng pagtaas sa halaga ng mga produktong petrolyo.
“Based on the first day of trading this Monday at the Mean of Platts Singapore, gasoline rose by ₱4.47 per liter, diesel by ₱9.33 per liter, and kerosene by ₱10.07 per liter. While these figures are not yet final, they signal another wave of price hikes that will be felt in transport fares, food prices, electricity rates, and other basic goods,” ayon sa mensahe ng BIEN na pinadala sa Radyo Veritas.
Panawagan ni BIEN Vice-president Jupiter Delda ang kagyat na pagtugon ng pamahalaan sa epekto ng digmaan sa Pilipinas.
Tinukoy ng BIEN ang pagtatanggal sa labis-labis na buwis sa mga produktong petrolyo at tuluyang pagsa-walang bisa ng Oil Deregulation Law upang mabigyan ng proteksyon ang ekonomiya ng Pilipinas.
““We did not choose this war, yet Filipino workers are forced to pay for its consequences as tensions escalate in the Middle East due to the US–Israel war of aggression against the people of Iran, oil prices surge, and it is working people in countries like the Philippines who absorb the shock,” ayon naman sa mensahe ni Delda na pinadala ng BIEN sa Radyo Veritas.
Naitala ng United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) at ng Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative na malaking dahilan sa paglobo ng kahirapan ay ang digmaan dahil noong 2024 ay 1.1 bilyong mamamayan ang dumanas ng Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI).
