Radio Veritas 846, the number one faith-based Radio in the Philippines, will air the feast day activities of Saint Alphonsus Mary de’ Liguori Parish in Makati.
Listeners of Radio Veritas will be able to hear live reports and interviews in its programs Barangay Simbayanan and Pamilya Mo, Pamilya Ko from eight in the morning ‘till noon of August 1, 2016.
The public may also visit the Veritas booth to avail of religious and souvenir items on sale as well as to join or renew their membership to the Kapanalig community.
Built on 1968, Saint Alphonsus Mary de’ Liguori Parish was designed by Architect Leandro Locsin, a national artist. The then Archbishop of Manila, His Eminence Rufino Cardinal Santos approved the naming of Saint Alphonsus Mary de Liguori as titular or patron saint, to honor Don Alfonso Zobel, who donated the land for the church.
In September 2004, a faulty wiring caused fire that consumed the church and brought it down to ruins. The Bahay Kubo at the back lot of the rectory became the alternate place of worship. In the year following the incident, a fundraising committee and a special events group organized various activities for the rebuilding of the church. On August 1, 2007 in time for the feast day of Saint Alphonsus, the new church was completed.
Currently, Msgr. Claro Matt M. Garcia serves as the parish priest of St. Alphonsus Mary de Liguori Parish. He was installed on July 1, 2015.
Saint Alphonsus Maria de’ Liguori, C.Ss.R. was an Italian Catholic bishop, spiritual writer and theologian. He founded the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (the Redemptorists). He was canonized in 1839 by Pope Gregory XVI and proclaimed as Doctor of the Church in 1871 by Pope Pius IX. One of the most widely read Catholic authors, Saint Alphonsus Liguori is the patron of confessors.
Radio Veritas 846 is owned and operated by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila. Established in 1969, the Ramon Magsaysay recipient Catholic radio station continues to be the leading social communications ministry for truth and evangelization in the country today.
Barangay Simbayanan airs from Monday to Friday from 8 to 10 am. Anchored by Ms. Angelique Lazo with different priests for each day, the news and social concerns program features Church ministries, commissions, organizations and lay groups that responds to a particular need of a sector or community.
Meanwhile, Pamilya Mo, Pamilya Ko also airs from Monday to Friday, from 10 to 11:55 in the morning. The magazine program discusses family matters and is anchored by Bernard Canaberal and Jovie Barretto with priest anchors.
