Radio Veritas 846 the leading faith-based am station in the Philippines will join the celebration of the universal Church of the World Communications Sunday on May 8, 2016.
This year’s theme of the 50th World Day of Social Communications Day is “Communication and Mercy: A Fruitful Encounter “ which is in line with the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy first announced by Pope Francis on March 13, 2015.
On his message for the 50th World Communications Day, His Holiness Pope Francis emphasized the deep synergy between communication and mercy.
“The encounter between communication and mercy will be fruitful to the degree that it generates a closeness which cares, comforts, heals, accompanies and celebrates. In a broken, fragmented and polarized world, to communicate with mercy means to help create a healthy, free and fraternal closeness between the children of God and all our brothers and sisters in the one human family,” Pope Francis said.

Currently, Radio Veritas is going beyond radio through its website, www.veritas846.ph and its social media platforms. It is also to extending its reach to television through its partnership with TV Maria.
Radio Veritas President, Rev. Fr. Anton C.T. Pascual stressed the importance of communication and the responsibility that it entails.
“Communication is a gift of God that comes with a great responsibility; it can make or break our relationship with others, but it always depends on how we speak or act. May our hearts always be inspired by mercy, so that our communication will always express God’s compassion and forgiveness and let us all create an evangelized and truthful world,” Fr. Pascual said.
World Communications Day is celebrated each year on the Sunday before Pentecost. It was established by Paul VI after the Second Vatican Council in order to draw attention to the vast and complex phenomenon of the modem means of social communication.
This year, the Pontifical Council for Social Communications decided to align the theme of World Communications Day with the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy, a Roman Catholic period of grace, peace, conversion and joy held from December 8, 2015 to November 20, 2016. The Holy year of mercy is a time for remission of sins and universal pardon focusing particularly on God’s forgiveness and mercy. The Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy was first announced by Pope Francis on March 13, 2015. It is the 27th holy year in history, following the ordinary Jubilee in 2000.
