“Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. – John 11: 5”
Radio Veritas is inviting the devotees of Saint Martha to visit her first class relic and image from July 20 to 29, 2016 at the Veritas Chapel in Quezon City.
Saint Martha is a biblical figure described in the Gospels of Luke and John. Together with her siblings Lazarus and Mary, she is described as living in the village of Bethany near Jerusalem.
Jesus was a frequent guest to Martha’s house. On His first visit, Martha immediately went to work to serve them while her sister Mary sat and listened to Jesus. Instead of speaking to her sister, she asked Jesus to intervene but, Jesus reminded her that the only thing that is truly important is listening to Him, and that is what Mary has done.
In the next visit, Martha is grieving the death of her brother, Lazarus. When she heard that Jesus came to the area, she immediately went to meet him. In this dialogue, Martha expressed her trust and belief that Jesus is the resurrection and the life. Jesus then worked a great miracle and raised Lazarus from the dead!
Jesus has returned to Bethany some time later to share a meal with his good friends where Martha served them with more loving attitude and joyful heart.
Saint Martha’s feast day is celebrated on July 29. Saint Martha is the patroness of servants and cooks.
The relic and image of Saint Martha is open for public veneration from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm at the Our Lady of Veritas Chapel located at the second floor of Veritas Tower, 162 West Avenue cor EDSA in Quezon City.
